I remember when New York Sunday brunches were seen as a special occasion in itself.  You would find that perfect spot where you could find an entrée and a coffee with the purpose of eating and lounging with a friend for an hour.  This happened maybe  once in two months if you were lucky.  That was then and this is now:  Brunches no longer are once in a while, they are every weekend, and both Saturday and Sunday.  The options for a simple meal have become endless: prixe fixe, buffet, a la carte, all you can drink, 3 drinks included, one drink included, gourmet, tapas, dancing on table tops…… Visiting neighborhood diners are becoming almost extinct with my generation, we need the minimum 20 dollar meal (yes I think we are still in a recession).

Here is a list of where I am guilty of being seen for brunch way too much:

Blue Water Grill :  The prix fix option is awesome and surprisingly affordable.  I would be here all the time  but I need the patience to take the crowd of Union Square.

Pastis : Food is not the best, but if you feel like watching and being watched this is the place to be.

Il Bastardo: This has an option of all you can drink mimosas, and other brunch beverages.  The food is average, but who really cares after the tenth mimosa!

Cafeteria:  This place is 24 hours, trendy, big portions, and has the best mac n cheese I have yet to taste in New York.

Stanton Social: I love love love this place.  I cannot tell you how fun eating brunch tapas style is.

Norma’s:  This is reserved for special occasions only.  The prices are ridiculous, and they have no liquor, but the food is yummy.

Bagatelle : Have not been here yet, but there is a part of me that wants to have brunch and then dance on table tops.
