I just wanted to start off and wish all my readers Happy New Year! I hope 2013 is filled with happiness for everyone!
I generally do not write blog posts on social issues but I think this one pertains to me and my blog personally, so I thought I would write some thoughts.
For all those in the world who know about the rape incident that happened in New Delhi this month, probably know it really hit people hard (myself included). I have been asked by many people around me, why I still want to go to Delhi (Delhi has been a subject I write a lot about). For the past two years I have been spending a lot of time in the city, and coming from New York many people question me of why I want to be in Delhi and how l can love it so much.
I will be honest, the reason why I love Delhi is inexplainable and has a lot to do with finding peace in the city. Obviously this is a personal reason. However that does not mean I am blind to the problems that arise in the city, however I truly believe that this is not just Delhi’s problem but the problem of the Indian community as a whole. This problem surpasses castes, classes, and yes even borders. Gender bias is a problem with everyone of Indian background (and many other ethnicities as well but I am only going to focus on Indians).
One easy solution: tell your son/brother/husband to get off his bum and get his own tea! If you cook he should be able to clean the dishes. We can not have our women doing a “man’s job” (working) without teaching men that they need to start doing a “woman’s job.” Stop teaching your son’s that they are kings (raja beta no more), this might help gender bias problems.

The writer goes on to expand while stressing about gender equality.
I loved it, am sick of Indian men being treated like kings, that is why they can not handle the rejection that faces them everyday
