I hate being a stickler, but this is a pet peeve of mine, and I thought since all eyes were on CANNES, I could use this opportunity to point out a phrase that is being used incorrectly by bloggers (mostly from outside of the US). When talking about style, it can be hard to say which word is right or wrong since a lot of style bloggers are using personal opinions. HOWEVER in this case I think it is easy to define the word EFFORTLESSLY.
Definition of this word by Merriam Webster online is: “showing or requiring little or no effort <effortless power>” Basically it means you didn’t try!!
One way most bloggers use this adjective is to put it in front the word CHIC. Now don’t you think that if a celebrity has a stylist, makeup artist, and hair stylist on call there is a bit of effort?? It is fair to say that they have put some thought and effort behind their look (and money obviously). The look that they present should look effortless to for style critics to use effortlessly to describe the look. It is how us women use makeup to look naturally beautiful… its an oxymoron, but it does exist!
At the Amfar Gala it was Rosey Huntington Whitely who did effortlessly chic in Christian Dior.
No doubt in Milan, Paris, New York, this outfit would be on the best dressed list! It is so chic. This look is probably close to effortlessly, because there are no STATEMENT accessories on her, or crazy hair and makeup. It would not be hard for anyone to really replicate the whole look.
